Avandia Lawsuit Information

People across the country, who were harmed by the diabetes drug Avandia, are rightfully coming forward to file claims against the drug's manufacturer for withholding vital information from the public. This information indicated that Avandia increased certain cardiovascular risks including heart attack, stroke, heart faiure, and cardiac death. We are continuing to investigate new Avandia Lawsuit claims.

Avandia was once the world’s top-selling Type II Diabetes medication, however, the drug was severely restricted in September 2010 by the F.D.A. and banned by the European Medicines Agency after safety reviews.

Medsafe, New Zealand’s medication regulatory agency, announced that an Avandia recall has been scheduled for April 29, 2011. It has been determined that the risk of Avandia side effects outweigh the potential benefits provided in treating diabetes.

Millions of patients were exposed to Avandia during the 11-years it was on the market, resulting in more than 60,000 Avandia heart attacks and deaths. Most of these events occurred during a period of time when GSK was aware that the company’s own research demonstrated a hazard for the drug, but they failed to warn physicians or patients.

Avandia Lawsuit Settlements

GlaxoSmithKline took a $2.36 billion charge last summer to settle about 10,000 of 13,000 Avandia lawsuits it was facing in the U.S., as well as investigations over its antidepressant Paxil and manufacturing problems in its Puerto Rico plant.

The pharmaceutical giant has received "substantial" new Avandia claims since the previously settled Avandia lawsuits, a company representative said in a statement earlier this year to the London Stock Exchange. The recently announced $3.4 billion charge will be used to pay for the additional Avandia lawsuit claims and Avandia lawsuit settlements.

The proposed settlement of Avandia lawsuit claims allegedly range between $56,000 and $96,000, depending on the particulars and severity of the claims.*
